Another A24 movie review! Since they have been one of the main companies that are still releasing movies that are keeping us entertained in theaters and at home. There have been other companies as well but, I enjoy A24 and enjoy their different artistry cinematic styles when it comes to these movies. It's almost a different style from every movie they have released. With this movie, released March 11, 2023, for the South by Southwest Film Festival, Bottoms, we get a feminist twist on the 1999 drama thriller, Fight Club. Starring, Bodies Bodies Bodies star, Rachel Sennott as PJ, and The Bear star, Ayo Edebiri as Josie, two lesbians that create this fight club in order to meet and sleep with other women in their high school as they get ready for the next chapter in their lives. Two females in particular, the most popular girls in school, Isabel and Brittany(played by Havana Rose Liu and Kaia Gerber), are whom PJ and Josie start to go after and get them to try to join the fight club even though they don't even know if they play for that team in the first place. Once the club starts to gain some buzz, these two masterminds teach self-defense to other women but also to themselves for the first time. Causing an abundance of scars and lashes all over their face and body. Trying to keep it legit, they continue the club and build friendships within the group.

This movie has been one of the funniest movies I've seen this year. I enjoyed Ayo Edebiri in her more serious role for The Bear, but this role gave her a chance to be more funny, slightly awkward, but in a sense someone that women may want to learn in order to feel as though they have the upper hand against men. Which, let us face it, there are more times than not that men have the upper hand over women and choose to use that upper hand for their own advantages. I felt it was a great way for A24 to show that yes, they are with women, but let's also make it entertaining for both female and male audiences. Which brings in the coach helping these women become butt-kicking machines, Marshawn Lynch, as he plays the role of Mr. G, the faculty advisor for the fight club. Not only did he have his role of giving advice to these women but also is there for them when they needed it. Not necessarily always the best advice, but advice nonetheless that would be funny for the viewers at home watching it. I enjoyed seeing Lynch on the big screen and not in a football uniform, I enjoyed his acting skills and his funny wit to let the girls know that he was on their side more within guidance than just a teacher. I can't wait to see what you all think as well.
