D*CKS! The Musical. A24...WHOA.

The latest from the interdimensional mysterious minds of A24, bring something we all need through this madness we call society and "home." The American independent entertainment company, A24, has released its first musical, "D*cks! The Musical" and it has been the talk of October amongst the horror movies we've seen. With stars including, Megan Thee Stallion, Nathan Lane, and Megan Mullally, just to name a few. The musical aspect of it gives us a twist on our usual musical sequences within a scene, using the scene itself versus having the song separated from what is happening, I enjoyed that.

The story takes a hit on both versions of "The Parent Trap", and makes it into this quirky, funny, and slightly odd take on it. Meeting these two men, pretending to be overly straight, Craig and Trevor (played by Josh Sharp and Aaron Jackson), who believe they are the best at getting girls and being the best at everything they do. They end up starting at the same company, within the same position, competing to become the best salesman for the company. Their boss, Gloria (played by Megan Thee Stallion) sees the potential they could bring and sets them up for a 'friendly' competition. Once the competition is over and they end in a tie, they slowly but surely(with some help from their boss Gloria) come to a realization that they're twins who were raised separately. One with their mother, and the other with their father. When pulling a Lindsay Lohan, they learn more about the other parent and why they separated, the crazy, wacky, and abnormal parts of it all. Their father, with two "sewer boys", trust me you don't want to know, expresses he never went back to their mother because he was gay, and didn't want to fully try again. Their mother on the other hand, with her missing coochie, again don't ask, didn't want anything to do with him because she thought he was seeing someone else. Which he was. From then on, the twins work towards getting them back together and married.

Once everything has been set out on the table for both parties, and both sides of the party know that the twins are up to these shenanigans, the story turns slightly uncomfortable and very random. Including God in movies, is a bit extreme because it can easily rub people the wrong way. Although, I had no issue with the version of God being Asian and queer... I did, however, have an issue with the song they created for "God" towards the end of the movie. It was too much, even as a queer individual. There is a way to support the community without making it a joke... I felt as though the song was a joke and I didn't appreciate the company in doing so. It included multiple slurs and rude expressions towards the LGBTQ+ community.

Overall, it was a very funny and entertaining movie and a chance to see one of my favorites, Megan Thee Stallion, on the big screen as the head boss of the movie. But I just can't get past thinking that that song would be okay and acceptable to the community. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
