Freaky... Five Nights at Freddy's

The phenomenal video game turned movie has just been released and oh boy, we have got to talk about it. I have never played the game but as an educator I have heard and learned about the horror of the game and prepared myself for something scary and a new Halloween classic...Not something unsettling or uncomfortable. Five Nights at Freddy's videogame follows these animatronic beings who come alive as 'you', the security guard only has the security cameras to help find the possessed robot killers. The movie adaptation however gives us a different story I wasn't quite ready for.
Every movie has to have a villain, a criminal, an outlaw that does more bad than good. But what if that person was five different people or... half people. In Five Nights at Freddy's movie adaptation, I was expecting to get this whole backstory as you get in the videogame. However, we get only a slight insight as to why the building was built and why it closed down. We learn about Foxy, Chica and Carl the Cupcake, Bonnie, and Freddy Fazbear, the main five who run the pizzeria, Freddy's Pizzeria to protect it from outsiders. When looking for a new job, Mike Schmidt (played by Josh Hutcherson) is given the opportunity to have a last minute position as a security guard. During his first night he in, he encounters a very vivid and spooky dream of the day his brother was taken, and the only way he is woken up is by a cut on his arm. Schmidt is met with on of the creatures, and everything from there is downhill of him and his time there. One day the pizzeria is trashed by people working with Schmidt's aunt in order to make him look bad and have his sister taken from him. With the plan being unsuccessful, Schmidt's sister, Abby Schmidt (played by Piper Rubio) is still with Mike, but as day start to go by, he believes it might be easier and safer for her to be with someone who is more responsible, such as their aunt, even though they both despise her. In an attempt to take Abby away from Mike, their aunt gets a rude awakening and her plan fails completely. What happens after? That you'll just have to watch to see.
The story and lore of the game itself is incredibly spooky when you hear about it all. Video game developer and writer, Scott Cawthon, hasn't confirmed nor denied the allegations that the story of the game is true or false but multiple video game players, reviewers, and even some enthusiasts of horror have tried to tie everything together. There has been correlation towards the game and the lore behind it, but never a conformation or denial of it. But, the connection between the two has been starting to create a frenzy between the fans and creators as multiple theories started to form as to why the story wasn't confirmed or denied. Personally, I believe the lore is true. There are many many movies that are "loosely based" on 'theories' and secret locations in the United States, that it wouldn't be too far off from the actual truth and the government would never confirm nor deny it. But I believe most of these movies, if not all pull a lot truth to have them created.
Five Nights at Freddy's is out now in theaters and available for streaming on PEACOCK, hope it spooks you as much as it spooked me.
