During last weekend, I finally had the chance to catch up and finish Disney Channel's newest Marvel animated series, "Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur." Staring Diamond White as Moon Girl and the fabulous Fred Tatasciore as Devil Dinosaur. White is known for the role she played in Tyler Perry's "Boo! A Madea Halloween" 1 and 2, as well as lending her voice to Disney Junior's "Lion Guard" and "Sophia the First." Step into the world of a 13 year old girl named Lunella Lafayette as she guides herself through the end of middle school. During the first season, we learn how Lunella and her best friend Casey Calderon(voiced by Libe Barer) handle all types of crazy, funky, villain characters, with the help of devil. The creators, Steve Loter, Jeffrey M Howard, and Kate Kondell wanted to bring 'Black Girl Magic' to life! And they did just that with creating this magical, incredibly intelligent character, based off of Marvel comics. The comics ran from 2015 to 2019. The story after is INCREDIBLE! Superstar, Laurence Fishburne was in a comic book store one day and saw the Moongirl and Devil Dinosaur comic, instantly loved it! During his youth, Fishburne read the 1970s original version "Moonboy and Devil Dinosaur." So, he had an idea to make it an animated show. In the process of that, Fishburne went to his personal manager and friend, Helen Sugland, who has produced hits such as "Black-ish" ,"Grown-ish", and many many more. Sugland loved the idea and immediately called Disney and Marvel, who green lit it with the quickness! Which birthed what(in my opinion) RiRi should have been. From style, to the brains, to the musical vibe, she was everything I wanted from RiRi. Now don't get me wrong, I don't read all of the comics, so they may be spot on to the comics but, we're not talking about the comics right now(lol).
Being renewed for a second season, makes me even more excited to see what, the now producers, Helen Sugland and Laurence Fishburne have up their sleeve. Hopefully more scenes with grandma showing off where Lunella Lafayette gets her moves.
