Pixar's Elemental Review

To kick off the summer, I was able to go on a movie adventure with some of my community families to see Disney Pixar's Elemental. It was everything that Zootopia was supposed to be for kids but just a hint of the Pixar adult humor and repeatability in there as well.

We meet Ember, a fire element and Wade, a water element, who play into the Disney love storytelling layout. Ember, voiced by Leah Lewis, is this fiery independent woman who deals with the struggles that come with being a child of an immigrant family. She meets Wade, voiced by Mamoudou Athie, who is all about looking at life on the bright side. They clash together in the world of Element City, with inspiration from New York, New York. Writer, Director and, Animator Peter Sohn wanted to not only tell his own personal story through the movie but the story that may be relatable to many different cultures as well. As he explains through the origin story, that when he and his family moved to New York, they had no family to help them and paved their own way to start a new legacy. Within he movie we can see that Ember is indeed apart of an immigrant family, coming to a new community for a better life. Ember is the type of woman who would do anything for her parents and make sure that they will never have anything to worry about. As most of us do for our parents and family. But when meeting Wade, she wants more out of life, but believes that she'll disappoint her family in the process. Together, they learn how to accept differences, look at life with a different perspective, and pursue more out of life and exceed stereotypical expectations. Oh, and also find love beyond all odds!

As someone with many different cultures tied into one within my own family, it was beautiful to see this movie and how different people can possibly live together as one community. With the love story between Ember and Wade, we see some friendships and partnerships form within other elements as well. Proving that everyone can come together within the same community. I do hope Pixar continues to dabble in different cultures as they did with Elemental and the Korean culture and traditions.
