YES, CHEF! The two season, 13 Emmy nominated series, The Bear, tells the story of Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto(Jeremy Allen White) and his play cousin, Richard "Richie" Jerimovich(Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they not only transform an Italian beef deli shop into a gourmet restaurant with the help of the rest of the crew but a specific newcomer with bright ideas, Sydney Adamu(Ayo Edebiri). The story itself is phenomenal for a live action series and kept me wanting more but lets dive a little bit deeper on the slight true story that we'll be able to watch. Created by FXP company, Disney's FX, which is apart of the Disney Entertainment division.
Now while the whole show isn't based on a true story, co-creator Christopher Storer's life was used to inspire season one with his childhood in suburban Chicago(according to the Parade article). Growing up with Chris Zucchero(Chi-Chi in the show), we find out that Zucchero's father founded the sandwich shop "Mr. Beef" in Chicago that inspired the restaurant for season one "The Original Beef of Chicagoland." Personally, I am a fan of sandwiches in general(as long as there isn't any peanut butter or chitlins) and would be interested in seeing how good this restaurant is for sandwich lovers. The story line focuses mostly on White's character and his goal to become the best after trying to make it in the New York restaurant and reached a breaking point when he couldn't keep up with the stress and pressure that the head chef brought to him. He then is gifted his late brother's(Michael "Mikey" Berzatto, played by Jon Bernthal) restaurant, which is total sh*tshow at the first glance but filled with character and different characters that bring it all together. As the story unfolds, we learn about mostly everyone's backstory on how they were brought to this point of the story within the first season. Getting them prepared for season two and the changes that are happening to their beloved restaurant. Which focuses on enhancing everything(people included) and working towards complicated but elegant dishes to become more upscale.
Will they make it? Will there be a season three? Find out and let me know in the comments. All episodes now streaming on HULU.
