The Creator.

Directed and written by Gareth Edwards, and also with the help of Chris Weitz, brings us September 2023's The Creator. This sci-fi family story follows an insight into what life would be like if we didn't treat AI or artificial intelligence with the same respect as we do each other. But do we honestly, truly treat each other with respect? I didn't think so. We follow the story of Joshua (played by John David Washington from Inception) and his pregnant wife Maya (played by Gemma Chan from Don't Worry Darling) as they are trying to enjoy peace in what is now called New Asia. A community that embraces AI consisting of South, East, and Southeast Asia. Living in peace and harmony with humans, AI, and simulants (a cadre of humanoid robots) alike. But of course, everything goes straight to disaster when the United States military gets involved. Which, nine times out of ten is usually what happens to most cultural environments when the all-powering, "land of the free" government gets involved. A small part of the New Asia community gets attacked and while they do capture Joshua, Maya, and the unborn child, are murdered by a missile strike from the United States' new weapon by the name of NOMAD. A spaceship that tracks the reading on AI and simulants (or Sims) alike to take them into US custody or dismantle them right then and there with more missile strikes. Once Joshua believes there is nothing else that he can do after losing his wife and unborn child, he goes on with his life. Taking crappy medication, instead of being at peace and healthy in New Asia, in the district heart of Los Angeles. They convince Joshua to join their team when they believe New Asia is creating a new weapon and only Joshua knows how to get to it in their lab. However, when they find it, things hit a little closer to home.

Beautiful viewpoints of children and adults make us, hopefully, rethink the way we are "helping" this country. Are we making it safer and accessible to all? Or are we focusing on who has the money and who is a "true American"? These are some questions I have for non-minorities watching this movie. We're told to 'go back to our countries,' or 'learn to speak English,' when damn near all of us didn't ask to be here in the first place. People leaving the US and moving to New Asia showed that the people felt that they would receive more peace and support from another country instead of waiting for hope for all in the US. Another plot point that was impressive and important information to share in the movie was the reality of what the US does to the innocent and confused. There were multiple parts of the movie where there were children, elders, and even religious followers who were either beaten on, threatened, or killed because the US military wanted answers, which is what this country does right this second. Every war, every fight, they never play fair, and they know it, and this movie showed it. Learning the foreign language of another country just to gain secrets and information out of these people, and then ending their lives or keeping them as a hostage. Traumatizing them and their families, without any remorse, any guilt, or any forethought of what they could be doing to these people.

Overall, this was an amazing movie and an even more amazing cast, and I personally believe everyone should see this movie. I know I give you all my honest reviews but this should be on everyone's list to watch. Between the sci-fi elements and the realism of the US army and how they handle other cultures and countries that may not have access to the resources America has. When is enough, enough? When can adults and children alike feel comfortable and safe wherever they go?
